Fake Shadow - Superman
Fake Shadow Artist Statement:
I decided to create a fake shadow for my brother where his shadow is the shadow of Superman. I chose to do this because I think it’s symbolic of how people view my brother in the real world: they don’t get to know his true self, so ironically, they see his form but not his shadow. It almost takes a double-take, but once you see the Superman, you don’t see the somewhat dorky and shy looking teenager. That part of him is now the shadow as the Superman becomes who he really is. I thought that i should do this for him because he doesn’t know how I truly think of him. To him, I’m a third parent, or maybe a strict, but cool uncle. If I were to show him this, I think everything I’ve done would make sense, so I’ll save this picture for the right moment.

Fake Reflection - Water Tower
Fake Reflection Artist Statement:
I decided to take a picture of my neighborhood pond in hopes that it would provide a good reflection, but because of some hilly terrain and the shallowness of the pond, it didn’t come out quite right. In response, I tried to make a fake but realistic-looking reflection in order to create the picture I couldn’t document. I enjoyed making the reflection, but I was kind of surprised how easy it was to make a realistic-looking reflection. I began to wonder how often people use “real images” when they were clearly photoshopped. Sometimes the power to manipulate what people see and believe shouldn’t be used, but for the sake of this class, I think it’s okay. I enjoyed making this photo, but I think it could look more realistic. However, I think that most people would have to scrupulously look at it in order to find some error in my photographical manipulation.
